What is Stationery Store Day?

It's a holiday celebrating brick-and-mortar stationery shops founded by Kristina Burkey, owner of Calliope in Massachusetts.

I have a shop! How do I participate?

Fill out this form telling us about your shop and we will review it and get back to you!

Why do you require 60% salesfloor be devoted to stationery?

For 2 reasons:

1) Stationery Store Day is a day to lift up and celebrate stationery shops. There are shops out there have a huge amount of cards or large selection of journals, but that doesn't make them stationery stores. In order to preserve the mission of the day, we require AT LEAST more than half selling space be stationery products.

2) In adding a shop to our list, we are essentially promising a customer who loves paper will be happy walking in the door. Everyone is different and of course we can't personally visit every store and MAKE SURE but this is way to do our best to ensure the paper person on the hunt for stationery will find what they want.

I have an online or Etsy shop. Can I be on the list?

At this time we only list brick and mortar shops. Part of the purpose of Stationery Store Day is to motivate people to leave the house, support their local businesses, and also to meet fellow paper people!

All that said, you may still celebrate Stationery Store Day any way you like but only approved retailers will be added to our list of shops and are eligible to carry the official merch.

OK I definitely have the stock to participate and I did the form. Now what?

Your form will be reviewed and we will let you know if your shop is approved or if we need more info. If approved you will be sent an invitation to make an account on our site. Once you have done that, we tag your account and you will be able to see the merch shop and order once it opens.

You will also be added to the list of shop by location, and to the SSD mailing list which only operates March-August and serves to remind you of important updates and encouragement as Stationery Store Day gets closer!

If you don't hear back right away please be patient! SSD is run by volunteers with shops of their own.

What kind of merch will there be? How much can I have?

Available merch changes every year and depends what kind of product will look best with our artist's work on it, but there is always at least washi, stickers, a tote, and a notebook.

Merch is pre-ordered in late March-early April and is shipped to the shops in early June. You can order as much or as little as you like. Whatever works best for your shop.

I am an international shop and shipping will kill me. What are my options for merch?

Every year our artist designs a poster they kindly allow everyone to download for free to be used ONLY as a poster to advertise the day. The download will be up in the merch shop. You simply add it to your cart and check out and the PDF will be emailed to you.

Can I make my own merch?

You can! Shops do it every year and it's so fun to see what you come up with.  "Stationery Store Day" is free to use but remember the Paper Parade designed by Calliope and all the official merch designs are copyrighted and owned by the artist.

If we find any products being made from either the Paper Parade or the official merch (this year or past years) it will result in the shop's removal from the SSD site and its inability to participate in SSD going forward.

Can you promote our shop's events on the SSD site?

We do not promote individual shop events on our site but if you tag us @stationerystoreday on Instagram we are happy to repost it!

If you have any other questions not answered here, please fill out the contact form and we'll get back to you!
